Follower count is the number people compare and it is the least useful one. An account with 400,000 followers and 900 likes a post is losing to an account with 12,000 followers and 800 likes a post, and only one of those two is going to hold a brand deal.
This tool compares on engagement rate instead. Enter the public numbers for your account and up to three competitors — followers, average likes, average comments — and it ranks all four on the metric that actually predicts whether an audience is real.
Runs entirely in your browser using numbers you enter. Nothing is fetched from any social platform and nothing is sent anywhere.
How to gather the numbers
Everything this needs is publicly visible on the accounts themselves. Open the competitor profile, take their follower count, then average the likes and comments across their last nine to twelve posts.
One viral post distorts an average badly. If a post has ten times the engagement of the ones around it, leave it out — you are trying to measure their normal, not their best day.
Use posts of the same type where you can. Reels and static posts get very different engagement on the same account, so comparing your Reels against their photo grid measures the format rather than the accounts.
Reading the result
| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| They have more followers, you have a higher rate | Your audience is more engaged. This is the position to be in for brand work. |
| They have more followers and a higher rate | They are genuinely ahead. Worth studying what they post rather than how often. |
| Their rate is far below the band for their size | Common with bought followers, or with an audience acquired for something they no longer post about. |
| Their comment ratio is far above yours | They are getting conversation, not just taps. That is the harder thing to build. |
Bear in mind that engagement rate falls as accounts grow — a 6% rate at 5,000 followers and a 2% rate at 500,000 are not the same achievement. The engagement rate calculator shows the normal band for each size.
What this cannot see
It compares one thing: visible engagement against follower count. It does not know their posting frequency, whether they run ads, what their audience geography is, whether they convert any of it to sales, or whether the numbers are bought.
That last one is worth sitting with. A competitor whose rate looks impossible for their size may simply be buying comments, and a comparison that treats their number as a target is chasing something that was purchased. Real versus fake followers covers what to look for.
Frequently asked questions
Does this pull data from Instagram or TikTok automatically?
No. It calculates from numbers you type in. Nothing is fetched from any platform, which is also why it works for accounts on any network.
How many posts should I average?
Nine to twelve recent ones, excluding anything that clearly went viral. You want their typical post, not their best.
Why compare engagement rate instead of followers?
Because follower count says how many people once tapped follow, and engagement rate says how many still care. Only the second one predicts anything.
What if a competitor rate looks impossibly high?
It may be bought, particularly if comments are disproportionate to likes. Treat it as a data point to check rather than a target to hit.
Is anything I enter stored?
No. The tool is entirely client-side and nothing leaves your browser.
